The park bench that Miss Brill sits on while at the park every Sunday is a symbol to show the audience the social isolation and loneliness Miss Brill is experiencing in hope to try fid a companion other than her fur to socialize with. The personal pronoun example of her special seat implies that she always sits there every week as it’s a way of Miss Brill having routine in her life, and a social connection with the outside world around her. The adjective ‘special’ is to describe that the seat is owned by Miss Brill and treasured to her very closely. This is because it makes her feel at home being perched on the bench, as it’s a place to go to observe and listen to peoples conversation that she likes to feel apart off. The music is a symbol of the band playing in the park. This helps us see that Miss Brill’ emotional state. An example is “tum, tum, tum, tiddle um, tiddle, tum tiddley um ta blew the brash band. This onomatopoeia recreates the sound of the band which reflects Miss Brills own happiness of being at the park continuing her usual routine of observing people at the park which brings joy in her life. But it is very ironic as the life is actually only within the band, whereas Miss Brill’s life is lacking any energy and life immensely as she is just a lonely old lady. Miss Brill is a close observer this is shown with the example of the band sounded louder and gayer. This quote shows that she pays close attention to what’s going on around her, notices new things as she visits the park weekly. The example shows us how lively the band is sounding in contrast to Miss Brill’s lonely dull life. As the reader we can see she is very attentive to the music. This is because it brings her joy but we realise it’s the only joy that brings a sense of happiness into Miss Brills life as she is socially isolated from the world as she lost on how to get involved.
