Revised Essay Bennett 1 John Bennett Prof. Clark ENC1102 (M/W 11:00) 17 November 2013 (642words) Misjudgment In Edwin Arlington Robinson’s poem, published in 1896 called “Richard Cory,” he talks about how Richard Cory was always human when he talked (Robinson 6). Richard Cory was still always judged wherever he walked though because he was rich. People, like Richard Cory, get judged just by the way that they look instead of by who they are. Often times, people will have a first impression of someone and not budge from that opinion. If they give some time to learn about that person the judged, they might just find out that their first impression is completely wrong. Even in children movies, there is a lot of misjudging. In “Pooh’s Heffalump Movie”, Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and Eeyore go out into Heffalump Hollow to find the frightening heffalump. A heffalump is believed to be very frightening, dangerous and mean, with spiky tails. Little Roo wasn’t allowed to go with the group into the hollow because he was too young, but he wandered off anyways and found the heffalump. The heffalump, named Lumpy, got told by little Roo that he was there to capture him and Lumpy happily went with little Roo. When the group came back to little Roo they were frightened by Lumpy, but little Roo explained how Lumpy is friendly and is just like them (Gates). Just like in “Pooh’s Heffalump Movie,” often times once a rumor is heard, it gets believed straight away. For example, if a person in school was said to be a tough guy and always loved to get into fights and was just generally mean to others, a lot of Bennett 2 people would tend to avoid that person because typically people do not want to get into fights or just be around someone who is mean. Being misjudged can even come in the most obvious places like judging in a television show like American Idol,
