Less people would have to depend on welfare and other community services to get by. Many people depend on welfare because the current minimum wage is not enough to satisfy their basic needs. So, an increase would help more people help themselves. An increase would benefit all workers because it would push wages up for all employees. An employer would not be able to hire an unskilled employee for the same amount of a skilled employee, who has been employed longer.
There are so many answers to this question (i.e. take on another job, Go to or go back to college, or seek public assistances etc.) all that is an excellent answer, but it is hard to do, especially if a single parent cannot be there for their kid(s) if they take on another job(s) they will spend all their time at work to support their kid(s); or some people cannot go to or back to college because their multiple job requires them to work long hours and if they seek help from the government it is so much they can do considering the economy crisis. That is why it is important to increase the minimum wages so they won’t sacrifice their time with time away from their family and could enroll in or go back to school/college to earn their GED or degree so they could have better paying job. With the increased of pay, low and middle classes don’t have to worry to make any sacrificing the essentials that they or their family need; According to Time for a Raise, “If the minimum wage was increased to a level at which families could sustain themselves, fewer people may end up needing government assistance for housing, food, or health care.
Plus, you have to take into consideration that a lot of these people have a full table to support at home. By attending school, you are depriving them of less time with their loved ones, more time working and studying, transportation costs, not to mention less sleep. It is completely unfair and unjust to expect and demand all of that from people who are just trying to live the American Dream. However, by increasing the minimum wage, you would
If minimum wage was increased more money would be flowing to the pockets of working families, resulting in more people spending extra earnings on products and services contributing to the economy. By increasing consumer spending this would create more job opportunities. Minimum wage has not kept up with inflation over the year which causes the dollar to lose value. Many people are beginning to realize the importance of the minimum wage controversy. There are still many people who criticize and oppose the raising the minimum wage.
This task proved to be far more challenging than she originally anticipated. Text to Self I can relate my life to Nickel and Dimed more so than I would like to be able to. I have never lived in absolute poverty, but definitely in working poverty. Neither one of my parents attended college, so their income is quite limited in today’s economy. They make enough money just to get by and support them, but that is about it.
But the unions have gained too much power. In some states, the union bars the school district from rewarding teachers that are great at their craft. They dictate that all of the teachers must be on an even pay level. This would discourage me from doing any more to help students, than the most ineffective teacher, if we were made to get paid the same. Unions have helped bridge the pay gap between male and female teachers, black and whites teachers, etc.
If I think for a second how much an employer will like will to get out of an employee, it will turn automatically on exploitation or abuse against the employee. Obviously, the employer would like to get more from the laborer for less cost. In other words if a job requires an employee to work forty hours to accomplish the job and the employer have to pay a minimum wage, then the employer will like and expect the job to be completed in that deadline. However, if the same situation occurs when there is no minimum wage set the employer will not only expect this job to be done, but may want an additional twenty overtime hours to complete another person’s job by the same employee at no extra cost; because, it will be at solely employer’s discretion how much to compensate this employee for the job completed. It is frustrating to see how much of a trade off the circle of life is having to sacrifice people’s income in order to get a greater result on a business.
Also, the current employees who are making the current minimum wage amount ($8.25) will enjoy the dramatic increase to $10.65. There are managers and supervisors who believe that by paying employees a substantial amount of money for the job they do on a daily basis, the overall work environment will receive a bump in morale. Also, citizens whom reside in the state of Illinois tend to think that the term minimum wage is just for young teens in high school or retirees; but what they fail to realize is that a lot of middle class families attain minimum wage jobs and people graduating from college eventually take on a minimum wage until they are able to attain a job in their career field. To many of those in the low to middle class family income bracket in Illinois, increasing the minimum wage would definitely put more money into their pockets therefore allowing them to provide for their families more than the usual. “A survey was taken in Illinois to determine the age brackets of those that receive minimum wage pay, the information that was found was very interesting.
Throughout history men are seen as the “strong/tough ones”; the belief is that they should be paid more than women in order to support their families (Loney, 2005). Women often take time off from work to raise their children, which can interfere with their career path. Also, married women with children are more likely to leave their jobs, rather than women who are single and/or without
I think that the meanings of work lie in wanting to have money, to live happily and to survive. There are a lot of people in our world who today have jobs just because of the money. When we think about it that is why most people hold on to their jobs. If the job description says they are paying fourteen dollars an hour a lot of people take advantage of the opportunity because of the money. They would not care about what job it is.
