Chihuahuas and Miniature Pinschers Chihuahua’s and Miniature Pinschers are good loyal breeds and would make good companion dogs to the right people. Chihuahuas and Miniature Pinschers are similar and different in many ways. The Chihuahua is the oldest breed on American Continents and is the smallest breed in the world. They are a tiny toy sized dog and are about 2-6 pounds and 6-9 inches tall. Their body is longer than their tail, and their head is well-rounded, almost like an apple in shape. The muzzle is short and pointed with a well-defined stop. Chihuahuas have 2 different coats, a long coat which has a soft longer coat that could be flat or curly, and does not have an undercoat. The second coat is a smooth coat which has a glossy, soft, and close coat which is fully textured over entire body, but is scanty on head and ears. The Chihuahua’s life span is the longest of any sized dog. Chihuahuas are courageous, extremely lively, proud and adventurous, and love affection. They can be strong willed without proper human leadership but they are loyal dogs, and become attached to their owners. Some can be difficult to train, but they are very intelligent dogs and will learn quickly with proper firm, but gentle reinforcement. They can also be difficult to house break. They are wary of strangers; therefore they make excellent watch dogs. They are not well suited for kids or other pets, but are sociable with their own kind. Chihuahuas are known for slipped sniffles, open font or soft spot on top of their head, eye problems, and heart disease. Miniature Pinschers are a German breed and look like a mini Doberman. They are also known as “King of Toys.” A male Miniature Pinscher will be about 8-10 pounds and stand about 10-12 inches tall, and a female Miniature Pinscher will be about 8-9 pounds and stand about 10-11 inches tall.
