Using the critical thinking skills you have gained and the materials provided for this assignment, identify two possible strategies that Thomas Hutchinson or Samuel Adams, or both, likely used to develop and improve his thinking prior to taking a stand and acting according to his beliefs. Both Thomas Hutchinson and Samuel Adams utilized the determining importance strategy when developing their ideals and shaping their personal feelings towards the colonial and British indifferences. Thomas Hutchinson saw the importance of “keeping the peace” by maintaining balance between the colonist and the British, using his political stature as leverage in that cause. Samuel Adams on the other hand used the same strategy to see his perceived long-term effects the growing British rule would have on the colonists. His fear of British rule of over taxing the Americas would eventually lead to the same conditions that originally lead people to flee from England. Thomas Hutchinson also used the strategy of “questioning” while trying to lead and keep his stature in society along with his local political office. He must have frequently questioned his actions that were aimed at satisfying two parties whose vested interest differed so greatly. 2. Explain the importance of building a foundation for critical and creative thinking when evaluating historical events such as the Boston Tea Party.
