MGT/350 Kava Week four The previous problem identification has discovered that the university has and will continue to experience significant natural, social, and organizational challenges. The university will need to make and implement some decisions to improve the overall mission of the company and provide the expected social assistance and continue the company’s mission of advancing the intellectual and social condition of the people through quality programs of teaching, research, and service (University of Alabama, 2010). The personnel issues will be discussed further on in this paper. To solve the practical problem of the officer area presenting an unkempt appearance, a simple weekly roster of duties that assigns specific responsibilities to the entire workforce. This roster needs to be fair, and the employees must understand that although the duties required are not outlined in their job descriptions, the duties are necessary, fairly distributed, and most importantly of all temporary. Reassurance of the affected employees will make this transition less painful and more effective. To keep this decision short, simple, and fair the consensus decision making tool will be employed. The two managers will gather the work staff and talk through the aforementioned agreement. The management will need to keep an open mind and listen to what the employees say. Regarding the heart of the organization, the human resources used to enact and achieve the university’s mission in Kava are a vital and important asset. Proper staffing levels and workload distribution are important to maintaining a motivated and effective staff. When addressing the need for staffing levels and work assignment a “work breakdown structure” (WBS) will allow management to visualize the appropriate staffing levels and ensure fair distribution of assignments. Identifying language the requirements will also be necessary to ensure the university can communicate outside the walls of the company. The government of Kava has asked that we help while pursuing financial gain in Kava. Through an agreement with the government we will provide employment and training for local nationals found to be qualified for employment. Ethics are the soul of a business and as such should easily defined and easily used. Using the ethics applied to the mainland portion of the business will work in Kava. With 50% of the population of Kava’s residents requires that ethics be enforced and any agreements entered need to address the education requirements and care for all involved. Kava is a unique and opportunity-filled location for the university.
