Obesity brings with it a number of diseases that can alter a life with debilitating consequences. In today’s society, an individual who are overweight or obese is more common than ever, but losing weight can be made easier through the use of weight loss supplements, regular exercise and eating a healthy balanced diet.
American humorist and journalist Helen Rowland once said “The chief excitement in a woman's life is spotting women who are fatter than she is.” All humor aside, many of us struggle with weight gain as we age and unfortunately, if we as a society do not seek to change our habits in eating and exercising it is likely this unhealthy trend will continue to be the norm.
Obesity on the Rise
According to the US Department of Health and Human Services, being overweight or obese affects two-thirds of adults in the United States. Over one-third of these adults are considered obese, which is defined as the condition in which excess body fat has accumulated in individuals mid section to the extent that it may have an adverse effect on health. The condition of obesity begins when the consumption of calories is far more than needed for basic functions combined with a lack of physical movement which results in gaining weight.
Increase in Diseases
Overweight and obese adults in America has increased, diseases associated with excessive body fat are also on the rise. Fast paced lives leave little time to have healthy meals.

Obesity increases the incidence of heart disease and thus can cause heart attacks, congestive heart failure, sudden cardiac arrest, angina, and abnormal heart rhythm. These risks are decreased in an individual who strives to maintain a healthy weight and body mass index (BMI) according to their height and age.
