The Stanford Prison Experiment Well it’s over, and I believe we are all a little more enlightened on the subject of psychological evil and the power of role playing. There have been many surprises throughout this experiment but I think the most important surprise concerning the result of the experiment is how it was closed early. The prison was “shut down” only after six days after it began when it was scheduled to go on for 14 days. That’s a whole eight days early, this fact is important because it shows how real the experiment became, the prisoners aren’t real convicts against society, most of them are just college students trying to earn a few extra bucks who would’ve guessed it would turn into this huge mess? As the prison opened and everybody started experimenting with their new roles, some were hesitant about the thing and how it would affect their lives over the next 14 days and even for the rest of their lives.
The inability for employers to have a drug free workplace, since they will no longer be able to give the employees drug test for marijuana. It would send a permissive message to young adults that drug use is acceptable. This creates to the public perception that marijuana is not a serious or harmful drug, when in fact, it lead to numerous mental and physical harm. Loss of control over medical marijuana by physician. In consistency with other laws for example, if a state legalizes marijuana, this conflicts with federal laws, and this leads to confusion in the public and among law
He then randomly selected college students to act as either prisoners or guards for this prison for two weeks. The only instructions Zimbardo gave were for the guards to maintain law and order. Expecting the prisoners to rebel and rise above the negative environment, Zimbardo was shocked to see the exact opposite occur. After a few short days, the prisoners really believed they were locked inside a prison. To the prisoners, the guards had all the power and they felt as if they were supposed to submit to the guards will.
They would secretly inject themselves with the drug hiding in a bathroom stall hoping no one would notice. They believed they were becoming their dream image of themselves. Their performance was highly improving and the pressure to perform wasn’t there anymore. But what they did not notice was how nobody wanted to be around them because if something slightly bothered one of these people he or she would throw a tantrum like an infant child, but because of their size it could be dangerous. People knew and people avoided them just because wherever they went anger
However, a negative effect on society is that you honestly cannot determine whether the probationer will abide by the rules that the courts set in place. The other negative effect they could have on society is the probationers may go out and commit more crimes. My hypothesis about the overall effectiveness of community corrections is that it is lacking in its attempts to keep probationers off drugs and alcohol. I also think that urinalysis tests are not fool proof, and can easily be manipulated and passed by the help of the detox drinks that there is
Holden’s fear of change contributes to his resistance of the process of maturity. This is because Holden considers becoming mature a substantial change in his life and he, therefore, resists it. When Holden hired a prostitute, he realised that having sex with a prostitute would contribute to his progress to adulthood. Therefore, he attempted to get out of it by diverting the topics of the conversations he had with the prostitute, even though he knew it was a ‘childish thing’. It is notable that Holden never directly mentioned that he disliked sex; He merely says that he was ‘feeling so damn peculiar.’ His thoughts about the museum of Natural History demonstrate his fear of change.
In itself the price is steep and not reachable by most people’s standards and economy this day and age and sometimes we all must face a situation where the only choice is to override follow the leader mentality when it comes to someone you would do anything for. 2. Is it actually right or wrong for him to steal the drug? Yes, it is wrong for him to steal but the question is the result of not stealing it and receiving the drug a bigger issue, it is wrong to not work with the person willing to do anything to pay for this life saving drug. It is wrong to steal anything and morally wrong but when life is on the line the thought process cannot comprehend not trying every avenue if approach.
The correct use of mind expanding drugs can only lead to a better fulfillment of the human identity and a greater understanding of reality. Mind expanding drugs must become legal. One argument against drug use is that the addiction and desperation that occurs along with it. Many users lose themselves to their weakness of will and emotionally and physically depend on the drug. Addiction becomes so overwhelming that one
They will withhold critical evidence from the defense team and will resort to immoral if not illegal tactics in their investigation of the offense. Their personal opinion is that they actually do not care if the defendant is guilty or innocent, they just want a conviction. They want to extract their pound of flesh. Also researchers have determined that some of the causes of prison overcrowding are harsher penalties for criminal activities, changes to laws that make new actions illegal, high recidivism rates and needed improvements to the penal system. Once the causes of crowding have been fixed researchers can begin to address the problems it causes and deal with them.
People with ADD or ADHD cannot concentrate in school or do common task without being distracted without their medication. People with depression cannot maintain relationships or open themselves up to other people without their medication. This makes you think that the people in Brave New World have no reason to be taking any drug at all since they are suppose to be genetically “perfect”. On the other hand, they all have something that is different about them and something they are insecure about like Bernard being a little short. Bernard being short and a little thin has nothing to do with the person he is but he was simply just born with it.
