Media is the means of large scale communication with the society to inform, spread awareness, make a change or simply gossip about an issue. Media includes every broadcasting medium such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, billboards, direct mail, telephone, fax, and internet. Every sphere of life has the aspect of media in it, even in school, children are expected to have a certain understanding of some technologies or software’s and read the newspaper daily. Media is made up of people like us who are reporting to us hence we can relate to them and make a certain opinion about an issue. Its main functions are to spread awareness and inform. It acts as a whistle blower to the dirty politics, crimes, rapes and other issues by bringing them into the eyes of everyone else. Radio is a universal medium, it can be heard at home or in the car and is present in almost every corner of the country as it is easily affordable. Due to this, important information can reach even the remotest of areas and people can be made aware. Another advantage is that you don’t have to be able to read or write as in print media. It is useful even in illiterate societies. Television is watched by almost everyone, it is a place to make an image and to spread awareness. We have seen many advertisements about saving the environment, child labor, women’s safety and other issues. Also, the use of celebrities makes them more effective. Media is a way of communication between the masses and the government and the outside world. Often issues which are ignored are taken up by the media to make people aware of the kinds of wrongdoings in society. However there are many shortcomings of media too. Media is reported by people and can include personal bias. The reports could be inaccurate or purposely altered in situations of bribe or threat. Many times useful information is not broadcasted and
