A diagnosis can consist of hallucinations, delusions, strange behavior, lack of social skills, inability to feel pleasure, poverty of speech, and psychomotor retardation. There are many speculations about the causes of schizophrenia—some even believe that cannabis use (especially at such a young age) can increase the likelihood of forming it; along with a light body weight. Also, there are treatments out there for schizophrenia but the one that works the most effectively is an antipsychotic drug working in about 70% of patients. Only about 1 in 5 people recover from schizophrenia because some refuse the drugs or relapse from major stressors or the family
Most people diagnosed with schizophrenia are aged between 18 and 35, with men tending to be diagnosed at a slightly younger age than women. There’s no complete answer to why some people develop symptoms of schizophrenia when other people do not. And, because of differences of opinion about the definition of schizophrenia and its symptoms, it’s not easy to identify what might cause it. The most common theories are: Dopamine - There is evidence that too much dopamine may be involved in the development of schizophrenia, but it’s still not clear how, or whether everyone diagnosed with schizophrenia has too much
These services include medication, and counseling. Halfway homes have also shown a great deal of promise for the mentally ill. Halfway homes provide a residence for a select group of patients, and allow the patient to live a normal productive life. The findings show a diagnostic change in half of the patients (48%), most often to schizophrenia (15%) and affective disorder (28%). From index admission to follow-up, patients with an unchanged diagnosis of ATPD manage fairly well with regard to psychosocial functioning, and no deteriorating development is observed. In the majority of cases no personality disorder (PD) (ICD-10, 54%; DSM-IV, 71%) is apparent, and the ATPD is not related to any specific PD. The findings highlight the need for validation of the concept of ATPD, and point to the fact that brief psychotic episodes with an acute onset may be an early manifestation of severe mental disorder (schizophrenia and affective
It was concluded that 5 of the children with mothers with schizophrenia were diagnosed with the disease compared to none of the controls. As well as this 37 our of the 47 were given some kind of psychiatric diagnoses in comparison to 9 from the 50 controls. This study compared to that of the twin study focused slightly more on the environment rather than just the genetic links the child had with their parent. Chemical Imbalance also known as “The dopamine hypothesis” is early research that proposed that dopamine was produces in excess in individuals with schizophrenia. More recent research suggests that there are six times the density od the post synaptic receptor for dopamine and this leads to an overall increased excitation as more impulses are carried across the synapse.

DSM V has got rid of all of the subtypes apart from catatonic behaviour. However, ICD and DSM diagnose in different ways. The DSM says that characteristics of schizophrenia must be present in a person for 6 months for a diagnosis of schizophrenia but the ICD states the most important symptoms be present for only one month.
Anger allows the person to focus or provide a structure to hold on to, pulling them away of the feeling of helplessness or nothingness. A beneficial service a healthcare professional can provide to the patient, friends and family is supportive resources to help deal with the anger. Education on
The risk is highest for an identical twin of a person with schizophrenia. He or she has a 40 to 65 percent chance of developing the disorder (U.S. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES, 2009). It’s been proven that schizophrenia does run in families. However, the fact that there are multiple causes for schizophrenia including outside factors such as environmental causes proves the point further that no test screening is ever completely and entirely accurate. For example, just because a person gets the screening, and it comes back negative, doesn’t mean they may not develop schizophrenia later on in life.
