Mencius and Hsun Tzu on Human Nature in the Film “Schindler's List”

Throughout human history, all humanity faces things in life like war, crime, and power which can cause hatred and problems for mankind to face. In the text, Mencius states that he believed that humans are inherently good. He believed that righteousness was determined by age; whereas, benevolence is internal because it’s a feeling determined by oneself. Hsun Tzu had a very different idea of the nature of humans. Unlike Mencius, Hsun Tzu believed that all humans were born evil. Hsun Tzu also believed man was born with the nature to want to be profitable. If man indulged in this they would never earn the chance to be good. Both men had very different perspectives, but I do not agree with either of them. Man is not born good or evil. Good and evil is different for each person. It’s all dependant of race, place of residence, ethnicity, and age plus many other factors. It’s a never ending cycle, so therefore man can be neither good nor evil. Hsun Tzu pushed the fact that man must be taught to be good, I agree with this idea because everyone makes mistakes which we normally learn from. If we don’t learn from them then we would just continue to make the same mistakes. He also state that there are sages working to help man learn to be good. In my opinion, man learns from himself just as much as he learns from someone else. Mencius felt greed might eventually push man to turn evil. He felt it was will power that man lacked if this happened. Many people believe in good and evil. Though in reality good and evil is a fine line. What is a good deed to someone might be conceived as an evil deed to someone else. The film Schindler's list begins in 1939, which is based on a true story tells the story of Oscar Schindler, an ethnic German businessman who moved from Moravia to Krakow.
