Women and Men as Consumers In the world that we live in, there is an undying need to be consumers. Whether it be clothes, beauty products, food, decorations, furniture, etc. We all buy things we want more than what we need. Now the real questions. What are the differences between female and male consumers? Do they spend money differently? Who spends more money? Do they consider what they buy, or is it just an impulse? Women and men shop very differently. You can see this just from simple observation. When I visit local stores such as Elmer’s, Wal-Mart, and the Delta Plaza Mall, I can see how men and women differentiate when is comes to shopping. Men, usually middle aged and older, will tend to get in and get out. It is more of a mission for them. They do not seem to browse around or look at things. Men don’t want to take the time to look at the little details of everything. They know what they like, and are very much set in their ways. When it comes to grocery shopping, most of the time they have a list of some sort. They get what they need and leave. They don’t normally check price, calories, ingredients, etc. When it comes to clothing, they check the size. If it seems to fit, they buy. One thing men surprisingly seem to do with furniture and household objects is find the right price. They tend to be cheaper when it comes to furniture, caring little about what it looks like. Its more important that it’s comfortable and cheap. Women on the other hand, tend to browse around for as long as they can. They look at the details of each piece of clothing. The style, the size, and the way it fits. They even go to the extreme of going to multiple stores to find the right price. When it comes to food, it’s all about how much the item costs, calories, ingredients, how many of one item they need to buy, etc. Buying furniture is a huge deal. It has to “feel” right, look
