Homework for 11th November 2014 Kayleigh Whelan MU2:4)1:1 Outline the health and safety policies and procedures of the work setting. Uniform is to worn so that the workers can be identified but also to be smart and comfortable, workers are also advised on how they should behave whilst wearing the uniform inside and outside of the work place. Behaviour whilst in the workplace should be appropriate round the children as if it isn’t management will give the right discipline that is needed. If you are in uniform and outside of work and a member of the public see’s you behaving in a way they do not think is appropriate for you to be around children can also contact your work place and inform them and again the right discipline will be given to you by management. When working with children it is important to be physically, mentally and emotionally fit as you are helping the children to develop in these areas and if you cannot perform in a way that is positive for the children then you shouldn’t be working with them as it has an effect on the way they can develop.
| 1.2 Explain how health and safety is monitored and maintained and how people in the work setting are made aware of risks and hazards and encouraged to work safely. At my setting health and safety policies and procedures are regularly reviewed, we have a designated health and safety officer who regularly checks the nursery for any potential hazards or risks, when any changes are made all staff are made aware by the issuing of the new policy/procedure for us to read and sign or we will be updated at our regular evening staff meetings. Once a week health and safety knowledge of employees is tested by the health and safety officer, she will ring around the rooms and ask health and safety questions to the employees in each room to ensure their understanding is correct. At the beginning of any employees employment the health and safety officer will go through the health and safety policies/procedures to ensure we are all working to same standard and

If I was completing the daily risk assessment, and there was something wrong, that needing fixing, or anything else, I would immediately go to my Room Leader, but if my Room Leader wasn’t in, I would report it to my manager instead. If it was a minor incident which could be sorted without the need for my manager or room leader, I would sort it myself and report it to my room leader.

The education given to staff should include the functionality of the device being used, error correction, data verification techniques, accessing the system appropriately and education on the harmful effects of data entry errors (Hebda & Czar, 2013). This should not be a one-time educational opportunity but should be part of quarterly and annual training through the facilities education programs. There should also be some form of additional education given to personnel who are demonstrating continuing difficulties with data entry (Hebda & Czar, 2013).
At this point the industrial hygienist must use administrative control, engineering control, or personal protective equipment to help this employee from feeling that strain or stress. Of course, this is just one way in which our class relates to the job I have chosen. Another excerpt from the job description says “Manage, conduct, supervise, and implement the industrial hygiene surveys and programs.” This again is another basic industrial hygiene concept that we learned within the the first week or so. Industrial hygienist do things like create workplace surveys to get feedback from employees on what they could improve. They also create programs to help educate and keep employees safe.
