Using either smoked marijuana or oral preparations of delta-9-THC (marijuana’s main active ingredient), researchers have conducted controlled studies. These studies demonstrate marijuana’s usefulness in reducing nausea and vomiting, stimulating appetite, promoting weight gain, and diminishing intraocular pressure from glaucoma. There is also evidence that smoked marijuana and/or THC reduce muscle spasticity from spinal cord injuries and multiple sclerosis, and diminish tremors in multiple sclerosis patients. Other therapeutic uses for marijuana have not been widely studied. However, patients and physicians have reported that smoked marijuana provides relief from migraine headaches, depression, seizures, insomnia, and chronic pain (135).
I have a friend that has chronic pain (MS) and he lives some days not being able to walk and I know that when he smokes it helps lessen his pain. Medical marijuana can be used just like a prescription drugs and that is how it should be handled in the first place. With all the cons and how badly our country is in debt it would help we if we just decriminalized it in the first
Introduction: Hemp is simply put, the hardworking cousin of the more widely known but much less hardworking marijuana. Although marijuana and hemp are related; hemp is a variety of cannabis sativa that yields THC less than 1%. THC or Tetrahydrocannabinolnol, is the active molecule that releases dopamine,
Medically marijuana is sometimes helpful to heal patients. “Medical marijuana is the use of cannabis and its constituent cannabinoids such as THC as a physician-recommended form of medicine or herbal therapy. The Cannabis plant from which the cannabis drug is derived has a long history of medicinal use, with evidence dating back to 2,737 BC” (Amar 2). Being able to alleviate pain, marijuana is often made into anesthetic for medical purpose. It is undeniable that if one is not long-term using marijuana, he or she will not be affect that much by it.
Today more and more people are siding with pro in the marijuana debate. Currently twenty one states and DC have passed a medical marijuana use bill ("Medical Marijuana States," 2014). seeing that so many states have already allowed the plant to be used for such an important part of our life, medicine, should make the drug legal. Medically speaking, the plant is a miracle drug. It has many uses and very little negative reactions.
Running head: A comparison of marijuana and chronic tobacco use A comparison of the harmful health effects of chronic marijuana and chronic smoked tobacco use Name Course Date 1. Problem Statement There is a common myth that marijuana smoking is less harmful than cigarette smoking. However, many studies suggest that both these forms of smoking have similar detrimental effects on heath; while there are also contrary views that posit different degrees and types of health damage to each type of smoking. Many of these studies are based on variables that do not take into account chronic smoking of both tobacco and marijuana. One of the reasons for the disparity in findings is that cigarette smoking has received more research attention and has been publicly analyzed and debated more extensively than marijuana.
Former Administrative Law Judge of the United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Francis L. Young stated that, “In strict medical terms, marijuana is safer than many foods we commonly consume”. Legalization of Marijuana The legalization of marijuana has been a debatable topic discussed for many years. The government stated that marijuana is a harmful drug that isn’t acceptable to society. Although that may be the government’s opinion they overlooked the benefits of marijuana. As a member of society I believe that marijuana should be legalized because of the amount of benefits, marijuana is a benefit to health care and treating certain illnesses, dealing with mental and psychological problems and also help our society and economy. Marijuana is an aid for health care and treatment for certain diseases/illnesses such as cancer, glaucoma, multiple sclerosis, and even arthritis discomfort.
You cannot die from "binge smoking" like you can from binge drinking.” (Hordov 2010) Many people believe that the use of marijuana can be prevented and can be banned from the users of the drug. I believe that whether the government tries to stop the usage and selling of marijuana or not the people are still going to get it. There are many facts on the usage of marijuana in the U.S. and this number of users is high. So if the government were to legalize it I believe that they would benefit from it greatly. It is a proven fact that, “There is no evidence that spending billions of dollars over the past 20 years for anti-drug messages has diminished young people's interest in trying marijuana.
