Samantha Wert Midterm Project HS100-03 Introduction to Health Science Professor Elizabeth Falls Kaplan University Medical Assisting A medical assistant is very well known in the doctors’ offices and clinics in this day and age. They are very common in doctors’ offices while nurses are mainly found in hospitals. The job outlook of medical assistants between 2012 and 2022 will increase by 29% (Bureau of Labor). The average yearly wage was around $30,000 in May of 2012 (Bureau of Labor). When I looked through the information about medical assisting and found the information that I did, I found out that I truly want to become a medical assistant. In this paper, I am going to discuss requirements for becoming a medical assistant, my personality traits compared to medical assistant traits, and my career goals along with where I see myself in five years. First, I am going to discuss medical assisting. “Medical assistants complete administrative and clinical tasks in the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners. Their duties vary with the location, specialty, and size of the practice” (Bureau of Labor). When I look at medical assisting opportunities, I see them everywhere I turn. This is because in every town there is a doctor’s office and/or clinic. This allows the jobs to increase. The educational requirements for becoming a medical assistant include attending an accredited college or university to obtain a degree. Then after obtaining the degree, there is a test that must be completed to become certified. This will help out in the long run to find jobs. In some cases, medical assistants can have on the job training. They are still required to take the test to become certified in medical assisting. When looking at issues with medical assisting, I haven’t found any issues that are relevant. I see only good things
