How Are They Different? The media landscape is constantly changing. Indeed, the world’s contemporary media landscape is very far from what it used to be fifteen or even ten years ago. Today new media offers us a huge variety of options of how and where to get the information we need. Moreover, it became not only about getting information, but also about creating this information. The social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Blogger have dramatically changed the image of media itself. Due to these web platforms now we can be considered not only as consumers of what mass media provide us with, but also as creators of the certain content that can be easily launched into the media and even become a mainstream. But what does this all mean? According to Henry Jenkins, it, basically, means that modern media landscape has got a few characteristics such as “always on”, involvement, and globalism which completely distinguish it from the traditional media. The first and the most obvious characteristic is that modern media is always on. Indeed, new technologies gave us opportunity to interact with media every day, every hour and every minute. For instance, a decade ago people have to always wait to get a piece of information because news broadcasting was available only at certain time, newspapers were received only at certain day a week and so on. Today we have all the sources of information in our computer or even cell phone. There is no need to wait until newspaper or TV news come to release, we simply can go online and have an access to all kinds of information we need. All the stories and events are showing up immediately on a great number of web pages after they have been occurred and written down.
