Performance tuner takes a lot of time out of your life just working on cars. Performance tuner can also be a high performance engine technician. Performance tuner is a program that prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to increase the power of diesel and automotive engine; enhance the performance of automobiles ; and repair, service and maintenance high performance vehicles (Deplomaguide1). Mechanics have to figure out special needs of each automobile they work on. High performance mechanics also perform dyno-testing , sport tuning, and car modifications on racing vehicles (Mission1). Car parts are extremely fragile. Earnings are huge in this career. Entry level for technicians report between $21,000 and 32,000 a year (Mission2). Experienced and master technicians report between $58,000 and $108,000 per year (Mission2). Performance tuner requires education, training, and good stress management. The first step in becoming a high performance technician you need education. It takes a high school diploma to enter. It’s important also to take as many math and science courses as possible (Weintraub3). You have to take math courses such as algebra, geometry, pre-calculus, and trigonometry. Science courses that should be taken are biology, chemistry, and physics. Another step to be a performance tuner needs a lot of training. It typically takes two to five years of training and education (Mission1). Many trade schools and community colleges specialize in training future mechanics (Weintraub18). These schools combine classroom time with hands on learning (Weintraub18). It takes at least four years to become a fully skilled mechanic.
