The Mayan Calendar: A complex yet intriguing concept of the Mayan culture , that which has almost everyone who knows about it , puzzled. The first Mayan settlement was recognized in 1800- 1900 BCE in Many locations in Mexico such as: Mexicos’ Yucatan Peninsula, Guatemala, and parts of Honduras and Belize. The Maya, as a culture had a great understanding of astronomy and mathematical familiarity. The Maya were outstanding at art and ceremonial design for example their great: Tikal, Palenque, and Chichen Itza. The Mayan culture was embraced by 5 million people during 250- 900CE which was the beginning of the Classical Period. However, not everyone was pleased of the Mayan culture such as the Spanish. While the 16th century Spanish missionaries and priest destroyed the entire Yucatan region, and burned many of their books and calendars. There is one astonishing artifact that the Mayans left behind for us, which are their calculations on time and the universal cycle. While the ancient civilizations of the Mayan, Aztec, and Incan Empires were all very different and unique in their own ways. They each became strong and successful because of the different ways of adapting to the region they lived in and the many accomplishments that they made in their civilization which influence us today. The Mayan civilization was strongest from 300 to 900 A.D. It was located in what is now Central America. The Mayan culture focused heavily on religion. The priests were very powerful and made decisions for everyone. The Mayans worshiped many Gods such as the God of the sun and the rain. They sacrificed humans to their Gods to prevent bad things from happening such as sending rain to prevent a draught. The Mayans was considered the most
