Another reason for migration was the idea of primogeniture, which allowed the eldest son to inherit the wealth; leaving others desperate and in hopes of finding riches overseas. Also, many fled to America to escape peonage or prison. These social concerns in England ended up populating the colonies because people believed they would find a better life in America. The second major way that England shaped the colonies were the English politics. At some points, colonists seemingly were allowed plenty of freedom, while other times they were under strict English rule.
Manufacturing and coal producing areas of Nova Scotia and Cape Breton saw an advantage to allow their goods to get to markets much faster because of the railroad. However, the south shore which was the prosperous area of shipping, shipbuilding and agricultural products saw confederation unattractive and even dangerous. P.E.I. felt it would also be advantagous to join the new Dominion because the Dominion said it would take over the debt that P.E.I. had from the 1870s railway adventures of the Island Government.
BRITISH MERCANTILE POLICY AND THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION Historians have debated the influence of Britain’s mercantile policy in the coming of the American Revolution. In my opinion, I think it was not a causal factor in the causing the war. Far from causing harm, the Navigation Acts brought enormous benefits to Americans, who did not object to mercantilist policies As we all know, mercantilism was formed in West Europe during the 15th and 16th century. The early mercantilists pursued the increase of the precious metals as currency in their own country. The requirement was to buy fewer foreign products but sell more of their own goods in order to achieve the purpose of maximizing the accumulation of precious metals.
This could be explained by environmental factors considering they shared beds and have grown up together, but this does not make having a sexual relationship with your brother okay. Biologically, this was just a ticking bomb for a mutation to occur. They may have thought it would be a good idea to start a new life in America and pretend they were never related, but all Desdemona and Lefty accomplished was a higher success rate for a genetic
Hakluyt also pointed that the overflow of people, both in need of religious freedom and in want of more business opportunities, within England needed a place to go. America is not only perfect for dumping those excess peoples into, but also exceeds that by also bringing profit from those living in those colonies. One of the major points that Hakluyt drives home is the comeuppance to Spain by creating demand for goods and shipping, and thereby creating profit for England and away from the plundering Spanish. From the profits of the taxes and duties of the new shipping industry, Hakluyt believes a powerful navy can be built for the protection and preservation of the growing British Empire. In 1584, when Hakluyt wrote his Discourse, he says that England at the time was swarming with unemployed youths, men, soldiers, prisoners, and beggars.
Europeans were very interested in spices from asia. these spices from Asia were especially keeping food edible throughout winter seasons, also the spices could of been used for covering up food that didnt taste as fresh anymore. Trade with Asia was difficult and expensive. with the oceanic voyages and explorers finding new lands, the wealth of that country or society who found new land would increase their profits and wealth as a whole, so it would boost up economic value and produce more revenue within one society. Another motive for oceanic voyages in the 15th century was people and explorers were hungry and curious for new information and longed for ways to build up their knowledge.
1. Should Columbus Day be celebrated in the U.S.? Why or why not? -After taking a quiz, now I kind a doubt and feel shame on why we celebrate Columbus Day but before I make up my mind let’s explore this topic little bit more. Even though Christopher Columbus found this great land which lead all of us to have freedom and liberty with the sea of opportunities in this country but to gain all this, we have done something that would be considered unethical from every point of view as well inhumanity.
This shows that Alexander was ready to liberate Russia because even though it was risky, it helped to start the liberalisation process because it enabled ex-serfs to work in factories which would help boost the economy, let the gentry to earn their own money and would help advances in industry which in turn help Russia to compete with the western world. However the aftermath of this manifesto was a lot more negative than first appears. Although Alexander helped to abolish Serfdom there were a lot of negatives
When comparing two vastly different cultures, the question arises, why do certain cultures progress further and faster than others? Through studying societies around the world and comparing them to an underdeveloped society in Papua New Guinea, Jared Diamond concluded in the film Guns, Germs, and Steel that the development of more efficient farming and food sources are the root of this inequality. Respected anthropologists, Franz Boas, who developed the idea of “cultural relativism” and the importance of environment to anthropological studies, and Carl Marx, who stated that without higher economic and social classes new ideas aren’t transmitted into societies, support Diamond’s original argument that protein is the base of the inequality of societal development. Franz Boas supported Jared Diamond’s theories through his idea of “cultural relativism”, stating that anatomical, physiological, and mental characteristics of human beings serve no purpose in anthropological studies. He believed it was more vital to study the events that led to the establishment of various cultures.
