Intro to College Writing Film essay Matchstick Men Introduction Nicolas Cage is one of my favorite actors and I enjoy when he is in movies with more dialogue and less action, like “Lord of War”, or “Bad Lieutenant”. Especially when the director is Ridley Scott, who is know from being the director of one of my favorite movies “Gladiator”. That’s when I was certain I would enjoy this film. Summary Matchstick Men is a story about two best friends named Roy who is played by Nicolas gage and Frankie who is played by Sam Rockwell. They are matchstick men. A matchstick man is a professional con artist. Roy and Frankie have been partners in very complex cons for many years and have pretty much got the game of being a con artist down to a science. In other words that are two of the best at what they do. Roy and Frankie are very different from each other about how they are about money and how they live their lives. Roy is much more cautious and saves every dime that he makes and has enough money to be set for the rest of his life meanwhile suffering form a type of OCD that makes him a freak about dirt and sunlight. Frankie on the other hand is much more reckless and adventurous and is always trying to look for the next big job that is going to make him rich. Everything about Roy’s life is flipped upside down when he discovers that he has a fourteen year old daughter named Angela who is played by Alison Lohman. She is from a wife that he was married to a long time ago that left Roy when she was two months pregnant with a child he didn’t know whether she was his or not. When he goes to the park to meet his daughter he discovers that she is kind of a rebel that does whatever she wants and the two hit it off. Angela finds out that Roy is a con artist and immediately wants to learn something about being a con. He teaches her a small con and she turned out to be a complete
