Browning over-exaggerates the features and beauty of the nature of England almost making them come alive with her use of personification. The poem is very descriptive and also plays on all the five senses. She shows the sense of taste with the use of the word ‘sweeter’ in line 12, ‘ Made sweeter for the step upon the grass’ and also line 20, ‘Fed full of noises by invisible streams,’ the sense of hearing is shown using the word ‘noises.’ Browning also used the repetition to give the reader a sense of continuity. She shows that nature is evergreen and will be omnipresent in this world. This can be seen with the repetition of words like ‘the’ and ‘and’.
Dandelions are also known to be happy flowers so this sets the mood in a more soothing and calming place. The poet also uses imagery to lighten the mood up. “And a jumble of skirts spilled onto the ploughed grass,” could be portrayed in a mental image of the clothes scattering around from the laundry truck. It makes the mood less tense because instead of rather describing the horrible images of the accident, the poet decides to describe the little details of it. There was also an internal rhyme in that line which was “skirts and shirts”.
Moving on 1. The opening description of nature creates a sense of hope and optimism by mentioning things that you may describe as almost a utopia. The passage quotes ‘river… runs deep and green. The water is warm too, for it has slipped twinkling over the yellow sands in the sunlight before reaching the narrow pool.’ The mention of sunlight and yellow sands help us to think it is a joyful and happy place, which creates hope and optimism through the use of this description. 2.
The temptress is a female who possess what the male desires and she uses these desires as a means to his ultimate demise. Mattie definitely has what Ethan desires. Throughout the story Ethan is constantly gazing at her beauty and encountering thoughts of her that goes against his imprisonment to Zeena. For example, Ethan said that Mattie was “more than the bright serviceable creature he had thought her. She had an eye to see and an ear to her: he could show her things and tell her things, and taste the bliss of feeling that all he imparted left long reverberations and echoes he could wake at will” (Wharton 14).
Warmth, embracing and even security are the thoughts that come to mind from the description of the chair; comfortable, roomy and open window facing outside. The reader is provided a detailed description of what Mrs. Mallard can see from that chair looking outside and indicates the main symbolism. “She could see in the open square before her house the tops of trees that were all aquiver with the new spring life. The delicious breath of rain was in the air. In the street below a peddler was crying his wares.
If you have any questions or concerns, please ask! I look forward to working with you this semester! “Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves.” John
However in this poem she cannot find a happier memory and recalls a dream instead, “I dreamed once long ago, that we walked among day-bright flowers.” Her use of positive imagery such as the “day-bright flowers” lightens the mood and achieves the same effect of the memories in The Violets, as she stops thinking of death and causes the reader to forget the unhappy nature of the initial memory and be emotionally moved by the warmth of the following memory where she is “secure in my father’s arms.” In her poems The Violets, Father and Child and At Mornington Gwen Harwood demonstrates through her use of memories, her loss of innocence, the love for her parents and how quickly time moves. Her memories also serve to engage the reader and make us feel her sense of happiness, sorrow and
Dreamcatchers could carry the wishes and the love of one to another one when people are separated and urge to share each others dreams. Sometimes, the word “dreamcatcher” literally makes me think of someone being by my side, near my bed at night, catching all of the evil and letting me sleep with joyous and peaceful dreams. He or she could either be someone that had changed your life but already faded away, or someone who is going to show up in the future and go through the whole life with you. No matter who is the dreamcatcher or what is a dreamcatcher, there is always love, hope and infinite life along with you. Work Cited “ Understanding The Dream Catcher Legend.” Dream-Catchers.
He also implies of a life that he seems to find happiness and contentment with. He writes, “In the midst of the heat and slow time the music brought the promise of its origins, a promise of deliverance, a promise that if only for a moment, life could be stirring and dreamy” (17). Rose shows that the little things in life can give people hope and bring a little sunshine on a cloudy day. Rose discusses the hardships that were faced after immigrating to the United States and the positive aspects of finding your own little piece of happiness in the midst of despair. I can relate to both of these on a personal basis.
We are the earth, and our dream is the sun; it warms our skin, it shines through our dusty windows, it lets us see beauty that gleams in its golden rays. But unfortunately, many of us don’t have the courage to step outside the dark house with the dusty windows, and live the dream we only see in our surreal minds. Some of us let the dream fade into a small light in the back of our minds. Humans are so conformed
