Mass Media: Roles and Influence on Business. Nowadays, Mass media are considered an indispensable tool in human life. So what exactly is Mass Media? Mass media refers collectively to all Media Technologies. Until recently mass media was clearly defined and was comprised of the eight mass media industries; Books, Newspapers, Magazines, and Recordings, Radio, Movies, Television and The Internet (Beth Lane, 2007). Mass media can be used for various purposes such as Advocacy (both for business and social concerns. This can include advertising, marketing, propaganda, public relations, and political communication.), Entertainment, or Public service announcements. (Wikipedia, n.d). The Mass Media have a strong social and cultural impact upon society. That is true because of the effects of it in everyday life. It is increasingly extended and applied in many fields. There is too much information that makes people confused. TV advertisements are a good example. Some manufacturers provide advertisements about their perfect product to attract customers; however, it is just false information. They create images of an ideal product and hide the bad things about it. For instance, GE coffee maker considered perfectly in all of its advertising: “With its simple and unassuming appearance this drip coffee maker still stands out because simple as it is, it sure has a lot of great features to boast of. The GE coffee maker model 169165 can brew up to twelve 5-ounce cups of coffee, perfect for a whole family of coffee drinkers or a bunch of friends and visitors.” (oncoffeemakers.com, n.d).
