Statement of Problem What social effects does mass media has on teenagers between the age of 12-18 at the Jose Marti Technical High School? Aims * To become more aware of the effects of mass media on the lives of teenagers Objectives * To distinguish the positive and negative effects of mass media on teenagers. * To identify the main roles played by the mass media in having an effect on the lives of teenagers. * To make recommendations on how mass media can make more valuable contribution to a teenagers. Literature Review Mass media consists of the various means by which information reaches large numbers of people, such as television, radio, movies, newspapers, and the Internet that have a great influence on people and especially on the younger generation. There is also electronic media, which includes the use of computers, cell phones and iPods. It plays an important role in shaping the opinions and positions of the younger generation. This is creating a big change in society where all these gadgets are needed tour society function and sadly help us human beings to function as well. Sadly in today's society technology has become our best friend that we can barely live without. As a result of this mass media possessed both negative and positive effects on youths today. Mangleburg and Bristol (1998) emphasized that, exposure to mass media in particular the television, was considered a major socializing agent for adolescents. With new forms of media emerge and the convergence of media technology, the patterns of media usage will inevitably be undergone rapid changes. The Internet represents a fantastic world of opportunity for children and young people, filled with both good and bad consequence.
