It represents the bound feet that Chinese women of high class had when arriving in America, to “ensure that women did not ‘wander’ too far outside the household gate” (Yung, 19). Though this ideal was proposed and enacted by Chinese men and upheld for so long because of ideal women’s submissiveness, as independence rose in America, the women became “unbound”, free to wander without agony of oppression. Yung proves the popular stereotypes of Asian women as voiceless, passive and

An ad for Trident Splash, in the magazine called Health, attempts to attract a female audience that is conscious about what they eat. The Trident Gum ad is effective towards attracting women, young and old, who are health-conscious because of its placement in the healthy eating section in Health magazine. The targeted audience for this ad is allured by the representation of a healthy woman who shows confidence in her actions, and has a little Pomeranian dog. The model shows off her femininity by wearing pink, while being tough by fighting the urge to eat unhealthy snacks in the kitchen.
In this narrative the readers see that Charlie considers his culture and nationality much more superior to his wife’s but Christie values both the cultures equally because they represent the two individuals. Both of the readings content combined helps to understand how ones nationality strongly fits under their individuality. In Edith Eaton’s piece called “Its Wavering Image” she uses this short narrative to project her real life experience as a half Chinese and half British girl growing up in a Western society and her search to finding her true identity. In this story a young girl named Pan, a half white and half Chinese girl, whose mother had died and so she lived
India which had well under two-thirds of China’s population half a century ago is projected to surpass China by 200 million people around 2050. Acceptance of Nobel economic laureate, Amartya Sen’s view that development is freedom, the greater opportunities available to young women when fertility is reduced or delayed is itself a keep indicator of development success and population policy can help realize these goals. It is well know that as incomes rise, fertility falls since women experience an increase of opportunity cost for their time. The causality between fertility and economic growth runs in both directions. China’s rapid economic growth since the early 1980’s can be attributed to its lower fertility rate.
Some, mostly the younger generation, believe that Westernization was not only a positive notion, but necessary for their country to survive. They were introduced to a more lax and free way of life for both men and women. However, there was confusion on how to uphold what makes them Chinese, but continue evolving into the modern person. In the memoir Bound Feet and Western Dress by Pang-Mei Natasha Chang, she reflects on the Chang Yu-i’s, her great aunt, incredible struggle of what it means to be a modern Chinese woman. Although she shocked the world with her western behavior, she still faced internal conflict in preserving her Chinese ideals.
In China, based on the Five Relationships, women were expected to be absolutely obedient to their husbands. Since the Classical period, the role of women in China, until recent times, did not experience much change, for people of the society were influenced by the Confucian teachings and values. One of the biggest changes in the Chinese culture was Buddhism, which was introduced to China from India through the Silk Roads. Buddhism threatened the unity of China and it arrived after the fall of the Han Dynasty, and people didn't fully assimilate it into their culture until almost a century later. The collapse of the Han Dynasty helped Daoism and Buddhism
In the 1990s, Juarez was the largest export-processing zone on the U.S./Mexico Border. There are about three hundred fifty manufacturing plants. These maquiladoras have led to the suspicion that these factories are one of the leading causes of the murdered women and girls. The maquiladora system not only gave these women jobs, but it gave them their own sense of economic and physical independence. Juarez lured women into the city by its four hundred tax free factories.
As she is able to separate, she looks back at her culture fondly rather than with anger. The last talk-story Kingston adds to her memoir is a collaboration of China and America, old and new. She leads into the story with, “The beginning is hers her mother’s, the ending mine Kingston” (206). Kingston acknowledges that while she may still be strongly influenced by her mother and her Chinese culture, she is in the process of breaking away to create a personal identity. This is the first time that Kingston explicitly tells which additions to the story are her own.
The image of Progressivism was depicted through second-generation Chinese American women were influenced by Chinese nationalism and Christianity in adapting to Western traditions. Local Chinese organizations consistently reminded women to vote. "It is the ballot that will win political rights-and economic opportunities- for the future of American citizens of Chinese ancestry in the United States (uf162)." American women benefited from feminist campaigns for equal pay, vast career choices and gained an improved image for themselves. The 1970s saw a boost in the status of Chinese American women and their participation in community and politics.
Immigrants from China built the Transcontinental Railroad, which brought our country together by connecting the East and West. Many have become scientists or engineers and have created numerous ideas and inventions to make our lives better. Immigration is the largest factor contributing to population growth and contributes over 2.25 million people to the U.S. population annually. (Elbel) The chart shows the U.S. has traditionally allowed relatively small numbers to immigrate, thus allowing for decades of assimilation. After the peak of about 8.7 million in the first decade of the 20th century, numbers went steadily down.
