Yolanda Fells May 2, 2014 English 8-4 Mrs. McLaughlin Martin Luther King Jr. There was a man named Martin Luther King Jr. His original name was Michael King Jr. but he did the same thing his father did which was adopting the name Martin Luther King Jr. His date of birth is January 29, 1929. He died on April 4, 1968. His place of birth was Atlanta, Georgia and his place of death is Memphis, Tennessee. His death was caused by assassination. He was educated at Boston University, Morehouse College, and Crozer Theological Seminary. He had two occupation which were being a minister and a Civil Rights Activist. King’s mother was named Alberta and his father name was Michael, also known as Martin. He had two siblings. He had a sister name Willie Christine and a brother name Alfred Daniel Williams King. They grew up in a secure and loving environment. Martin Sr. was the disciplinarian parent was the gentle parent and let the father handle everything. King entered public schools when he was five years old. In May, 1936 he was baptized, but the event made little impression on him. In May, 1941, Martin was 12 years old when is grandmother, Jennie, died of a heart attack. The event was traumatic for Martin, more so because he was out watching a parade against his parents' wishes when she died. Distraught at the news, young Martin jumped from a second story window at the family home, allegedly attempting suicide. King attended Booker T. Washington High School, where he was said to be a precocious student. He skipped both the ninth and eleventh grades, and entered Morehouse College in Atlanta at age 15, in 1944. He was a popular student, especially with his female classmates, but an unmotivated student who floated though his first two years.
