Marriage is a union between two individuals whom have made a permanent commitment to each other. All cultures believe in marriage in some shape or form. However each culture has a different approach to it or they have a certain purpose that varies from one another. Some cultures have tedious and very specific stipulations Some cultures believe in polygamy, ghost marriage and incest like Singapore and Nuerland. Although both Nuerland and Singapore share similar beliefs when it comes to marital practices like ghost marriage, they both share different cultural practices when it comes to the marriage process and the role that their families play in the marriage. Singapore is located in southeast Asia. The people who lived in Singapore first were local fishermen and pirates. Singapore's culture consists of a mixture of Chinese, Malay, Indian, and British but for the most part Chinese. The population is very diverse. It consists of Chinese, Malays, Indians, Caucasian, different groups that are mixed and Asians from different backgrounds. English is the first language of Singapore they just use British spelling. Nuerland is located in South Sudan. Some Nuer people are also found in southeast Ethiopia. In 2011, South Sudan gained their independence. In the 19th century, a variety of Southern Sudanese tribes were affected by the invasion of Ottomans, Arabs and later the British. Some of the groups gave in and accommodated the ethnic groups whom invaded their land while the others chose to do the opposite. The Nuer people where one of the groups that resisted. As a result, this made other tribes view them as hostile. When it comes to the customs of marriage, the people of Nuerland , ghost marriages are almost as common as simple marriages between a man and a woman (Crapo, 2013).
