Marketing is the management process that identifies, anticipates and satisfies what the customer needs and wants. Marketing is a process at the beginning of the product to identify the target market and make the product well known. The two companies chosen are Coca-Cola and Skittles. I have chosen these products because they have been around for a long time and a very well known. Skittles are currently produced and marketed by Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company a division in Mars Incorporated. Skittles were first commercially made in 1974 in Great Britain and were first introduced in North America in 1979. The United States began domestic production of skittles in 1982. The theme for Skittles’ marketing campaign is ‘taste the rainbow’ which was created by the New York ad agency in 1994. In early 2009 Skittles’ began a web-marketing campaign on their website with links to social media websites including Facebook and YouTube. Skittles has been voted as the most popular sweet among the youth and is the second most popular chewy sweet behind Starburst. Coca-Cola is based in more than 200 countries; the first was in Atlanta, Georgia in America in 1886. Coca-Cola was originally intended to be a patent medicine in the late 19th century by John Pemberton. Coca-Cola was bought by Asa Griggs Candler, whose marketing tactics led to its dominance in the soft drinks market. In 2011 Coca-Cola was registered as the most valuable brand. Coca-Cola has tried to grow itself further by creating new products such as Diet Coke, Coca-Cola Cherry and Caffeine Free Coca-Cola. Coca-Cola has used many methods to expand their Marketing by using holidays as an exploit. Coca-Cola has continuously used Father Christmas during the Christmas period.
