3.2. Explain why marketing planning is essential in IKEA’s strategic planning process. Marketing planning basic function is to give the company a clear direction on how they will achieve their goals. It contains not only about market analysis, environmental analysis, customer analysis, but it also has marketing strategic. In short, marketing planning used by IKEA as a guideline to reach the vision of the company. It gives clear direction on where they shoule be heading on. Marketing planning is related to strategic planning process. During the process marketing plan helps the strategic planning to adjust with the market. There are 2 developments of strategic – Corporate strategy and Marketing strategy. * Corporate strategy looks more on company’s objective as a whole and resources issue * Marketing strategy will be more concerned to the consumer’s preference. They care more about the market they are within with. It is important for business to differentiate those two strategies because the context of marketing plan will be different for each strategy. Corporate strategy must be done first cause it will act as the basic or guideline for achieving the marketing strategy. Marketing plan helps IKEA to be able to adapt with the current market. As now we enter globalization era, everything move so fast, including market trend, if we failed to adjust with the current trend than we can’t survive in this competition. Overall, marketing plan can be used as guideline for strategy to adapt with the market. Like for example, IKEA goal is to fulfil the customer’s need and to create competitive advantage so they can be different from their competitor. To achieve that, it needs information about target market behaviour and preference so they know what product that will satisfy them.
