marketing paper Principals of Marketing Chapters 1-8 Marketing Paper I didn’t understand the concept of marketing or what I had really signed up for this semester. I understood that it involved advertising for a product, and the means of going about advertising it. However, marketing is much more than just advertising, and there is a lot of work that needs to be done before a product is even ready to be advertised. Marketing as stated in chapter one of the textbook, is the activity, set of institutions, and processes for creating, communicating, delivering and exchanging offerings that have value for customers, clients, partners, and society at large. At first I was unclear of what the definition meant, though learning about the four P’s, marketing plans, sales orientated companies, market orientating, companies, and much more, started making it clear. There are three different types of companies that all have different ideas on how to market. A sales company often uses the aspect of sales orientation. This is when a company tries to aggressively sell a product rather than understand exactly what their customers are looking for. A marketing orientated company learns about what the buyer actually is looking for and correctly markets that product. A product-orientated company, designs a cheap inefficient product rather than correctly designing what the market needs. After learning the type of company you belong to, it’s important to make a marketing plan for your product. A marketing plan is the most crucial thing to establish in a company, as it sets the goals for your future. First you need to evaluate your mission statement, and make your product according to your companies beliefs and values. Therefore if you’re a company that prides themselves on being environmentally friendly, it’s important you are doing so and staying true to you “go green”
