Mark Zuckerberg and the Effects of Facebook Mark Elliot Zuckerberg, born May 14th 1984, was special from the start. The only boy of four children, he made it clear to his parents at an early age he was gifted. He was a computer prodigy. “Zucknet” was the first computer program Mark ever wrote, at the age of 12. It was a primitive form of instant messaging used in his family home and his dad’s dental practice. He found a way for his family to stay easily and instantly connected. It’s no surprise that he would find a way to further extend means of connection. Mark Zuckerberg, a co-founder of Facebook lent an enormous hand in revolutionizing the way the world connects. In a Harvard dormitory room in Marks sophomore year he created another program, this he called "Facemash." It paired photos of female students inviting the visitor to judge which one was more attractive. It got the attention of 400 its first day but was quickly shut down by Harvard officials due to students complaining of privacy violations. This pushed him further toward creating, coming up with "TheFacebook." On February 4th 2004 "TheFacebook" officially registered its domain. Mark had a goal, of connecting the world. He once stated “Facebook was not originally created to build a company. It was built to accomplish a social-mission-to make the world open and more connected….We don’t build services in order to make money; we make money to build better services”. I think it’s safe to say, make the world more connected he did indeed. Families use Facebook to stay connected through distances. Relationships are built and matches are made. Long lost relatives are found and news of missing persons spreads much faster. Old friends and classmates get re-acquainted. Unfortunately, Facebook isn’t always used for happy things.
