Meaghan Savage Block -4 (a,c,e) She was born as Norma Jeane on June 1st 1926.She was bounced around from foster home to foster home when she was little and spent little time with her mother because her mother was institutionalized for mental illness. She had a difficult child hood with many emotional problems. She was beaten as a child by older boys in her family, and was raped when she was eight. She always tried to replace her broken up family by attaching herself to others. She married at the young age of 16 to James Dougherty. After marring she dropped out of school and worked in an aircraft hanger. A year later she tried to commit suicide. At the age of 18 her husband entered the military it was at that time she bleached her hair and started modeling. She never wanted to be famous her actual words were “I don't want to make money. I just want to be wonderful." She became a movie star and soon made close to $100,000.00 a movie. In June 1946 she divorced her husband. Marilyn married baseball superstar Joe DiMaggio at San Francisco's City Hall. Unfortunately, Marilyn's fame and sexual image became a theme that haunted their marriage. Nine months later on October 27, 1954, Marilyn and Joe divorced. On June 29, 1956, Marilyn wed playwright Arthur Miller. The couple met through Lee Strasberg, and friends reported she made him "giddy." At the 1962 Golden Globes, Marilyn was named female World Film Favorite, once again demonstrating her widespread appeal. Sadly, in a shocking turn of events on the early morning of August 5, 1962, 36-year-old Marilyn died in her sleep at her Brentwood, California home. She overdosed on sleeping pills. The world was stunned. Marilyn's vibrant spirit and beauty made it impossible to believe she was gone.
