Marie Curie The purpose of this report is to give brief information about life and work of Marie Sklodowska Curie who opened up the science of radioactivity. She is very famous discoverer of the radioactive elements polonium and radium. Also she was the first female person to win Nobel prize and she win Nobel Prize two times. For science and the public, her discovery of radium was a key to a basic change in our understanding of matter and energy. Her works did not only influence the development of fundamental science, also guided in a new era in medical research and treatment. Manya, which is Marie’s nickname, was born in Warsaw on November 7, 1867. Manya has been raised to become a patriot, but after the division of Poland in 1815, because of wars and treaties, The Sklodowskis other patriots were determined the Polish culture. Because of patriotism, these families were suffered too much. Despite of the losses of her mother and sister, Manya graduated from high school at the age of fifteen with high honor. After graduating, she spent 3 years in a village which was 150 kilometers away from Warsaw. There, she taught lessons for the children of Beet-Sugar factory owner, who hired Marie Curie for this reason. A chemist in the factory taught some lessons about chemistry and physics which was probably the first interaction of Marie Curie with science. She continued to educate herself secretly, because of the pressure of Russian of government of Warsaw. At the age of 24, she was on her way to Paris to study in the university. She registered in Sorbonne University in Paris and completed her master degrees in physics and math in 3 years. She won a scholarship with her work in physics and the Society for the Encouragement of National Industry paid her to investigate the magnetic properties of different steels.
