Asian Journal of Case Research 6(2): 113 – 125 (2013) CAS E 4 Manufacturing Performance and Process Analysis A.K SITI-NABIHAa* AND ADLINA SENAWIb ABSTRACT This case concerns process analysis and layout design for a Malaysian Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) company. Process and layout strategy has a major impact on company performance. Recently, the major concern of the General Manager was a continuous problem with product delays during ‘Bluefin’ chip production. Therefore, process analysis and layout design were both examined to ensure the minimization of product delay. Keywords: Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS), process analysis, layout design INTRODUCTION Rosham Aziz is the General Manager of Sakura Sdn. Bhd., a Malaysian Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) provider to multinational and domestic electronics product manufacturers. Mr. Rosham’s major concern was product delay during ‘Bluefin’ chip production. He was worried that if the product delay problems were not resolved, this would have negative consequences on customer satisfaction. The report by his Production Manager, Mr. Zulkairnain, about the company’s production operation showed that machine breakdown was not a problem in operations. In recent years, there had been no power outages. The company had taken preventive action by implementing proper production planning to ensure smooth operation by forecasting six months on a rolling basis, of which the first three months were secured production. In addition, they were able to allocate the necessary resources to meet their customers’ production schedules. Furthermore, all the production staff had been adequately trained in the production process.
