Managing work and home ­ is Indian working women getting fair deal? In the backdrop of fulfilling goal of financial security, Indian women has been performing dual responsibility of performing household chores and supplementing work of their husband since ancient times. While in modern times there has been a paradigmatic shift in their role at workplace through non­traditional roles, both to achieve their dreams and lead a more independent and dignified life. While women has responded to changing needs of society, however society has failed to give Indian working women their fair deal at all levels (individual, family, community and national) in the performance of their dual role. Not a fair deal Individual level 1. While women are equally contributing to outside work as their men counterparts, but men have failed to realise their responsibility in helping towards household chores. Family level 2. In­laws and relatives have failed to have empathy towards working women’s psychological, social and physical needs in this environment of overburdened work towards in­laws, husband, children etc along with cut throat competition at workplace. Community level 3. Community people instead of appreciating and providing support, they create impediments and unfavourable environment through their chit­chat ­ Not appropriate for women to go alone outside home ­ Its not safe to travel in public transport ­ Not good for women to be talking to males in office before marriage ­ There must be something wrong if women comes late from office etc 4. Political leaders undeserved remarks: ­ women not to be working before marriage ­ suggesting dress code National level 5. Companies have failed ­ to provide women a
