MANAGING TIME WISELY October 28, 2011 Managing Time Wisely Time management is a technique that anyone can use at work, school, or for personal reasons. Time management consists of three important steps: study plans, strategies, and benefits. When these steps are used you can live a productive, stress free life. This tip is for the adult student who wants to further his/her education but is saying he/she do not have the time. The first step you need to consider when managing your time wisely is to think about ways to keep your everyday life on track by coming up with a study plan on how you could take advantage of every minute of free time that you have. The Cornell Learning Strategies Center has come up with this strategy called the “Five Day Study Plan”. The human brain learns academic material faster and better on an exam if done in brief blocks of time spread out over longer periods of time rather than in a few lengthy sessions (Cornell University, 2007). To get an A or B you need at least 8 hours of study time some people require less depending on the level. The key to the study plan is space out your learning, next each day prepare a new chapter then review the previous material, then divide the material up so you are not cramming everything, also use writing and reciting strategies, and test yourself to see what you have learned. The first strategy is to find a dedicated place to study, that means find a quiet location where there are no distractions. For example cut off the television, radio, or any other noise distractions that may get your attention. The next technique that you may want to practice is scheduling break times, do not work continuously without maybe stretching, or getting yourself a snack because everyone needs to make sure they eat and get plenty of rest.
