Running Head: BORDER PORTECTION AND IMMIGRATION Border Protection and Immigration Eric R. Kloss Excelsior College Border Protection and Immigration Americans live in a country where freedom is taken for granted, and not appreciated. Most Americans do not know the cost of freedom and are unwilling to contribute to keeping America free. Americans forget the price that so many have paid to keep America free. I feel that immigration and border security is one of the main issues associated with terrorists and the smuggling of illegal goods, and equipment into America. Changes must be enforced instantly in order to stop this illegal entry into America. I feel that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and Immigration are America’s front line and first defense against terrorism. In order for America to keep, its freedom I feel changes must be made to our current border security and immigration laws. U.S. Customs and Border Protection is America’s largest uniformed law enforcement organization and is dedicated to providing homeland security by securing our borders. Specifically, CBP prevents terrorists and their weapons from entering our shores while enforcing hundreds of U.S. trade and immigration laws (U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Border Security Overview). U.S. Customs and Border Protection is dedicated to providing homeland security, and they should take action now to prevent any and all terrorists from entering America. Problems I have found in the CBP and the Immigrations agency start with the inspections. Under the authority granted by the immigration and Nationality Act (INC), as amended, a CBP officer may question, under oath, any person coming into the United States to determine his or her admissibility. In addition, an inspector has authority to search without warrant the person and effects of any person seeking
