Ans) Following are the reasons why information systems are so essential in business today: 1/ Operational excellence- Businesses improve the efficiency of their operations in order to achieve higher profitability. Information systems are important tools available to managers for achieving higher levels of efficiency and productivity in business operations. 2/ Global Market - A greater consumer base means a much larger amount of information being passed through company hands; an entire world's worth of customers demand an effective system for processing all the information included in such operations. 3/ The passing of some laws, such as one that requires companies to hold staff emails for at least five years, has created a demand for greater database capability in the commercial world. 4/ Competitive Advantage - The early bird gets the worm, or in this case, the first businesses that implement successful information systems are the first to reap the benefits of having them.
