Functions of Management In the world of business a company puts great faith in the management team. In order for the team to have motivation and a leader to help ensure that the best job possible is being done, a manager is appointed. The measurement of performance and a manager’s capability can be determined by the success of team interaction, production of products, and customer satisfaction. According to Bateman and Snell management is “the process of working with people and resources to accomplish organizational goals” (Bateman and Snell, 2009). In order for a manager to become successful he or she follows the four functions of management which involves planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Planning The first function of management is the process of planning. In this process a decision is made as to how the organization and its workers will pursue the company’s goals and the actions that must be taken. The vision at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor’s Complex involves the ability to tell the NASA story and follows the GuestPath motto to “create a special experience one guest at a time” (Delaware North Companies, 2009). Planning involves not only the center director, but also members of administration in the marketing, finance, project development, operations, retail, and foods departments to name a few. Currently, the manager of Project Development is in charge of planning the construction of a new building that will be arriving by the Fall of 2013. This building will display the Space Shuttle Atlantis for all to see up close and personal. Also, other hands-on activities will be located within this building.
