The purpose of this observational audit is to compile information on the sustainability of Open Minds so that it can be used by staff to transform current circumstances and make their workspace and processes more sustainable. These recommendations respect the unique nature of each space while encouraging staff to make changes that will reduce environmental impacts. The audit was undertaken at Open Minds Head Office in March and April 2013.
Open Minds (OM) supports people living with mental illness, disability or brain injury to live full and rewarding lives in the community, providing psychosocial and disability services. Open Minds supports over 800 men and women, has a turnover of $12M annually, is principally government funded and has 240 staff.
The Head Office is in Woolloongabba, with five Community Premises from which they offer a range of services. Significantly, more than half of Open Minds’ staffs conduct their duties through outreach and mobile services in the community, alongside clients in their day to day lives.
This sustainability audit has been done on the OM head office and the findings were used for the overall organisation. As the organisation’s head office, it is important to lead by example.
