Kelley Exam #2 ESSAY #1 Diego Velasquez was like none of his Spanish contemporaries. He always created masterpieces with special effects with lights on objects and colors. His most common piece, Maids Of Honor, is a beautiful painting. He uses lighting and shadows in a way that I’ve never seen before. The mirror in the background in this particular painting is significant in the fact that the reflections shown are the King and Queen of that time. I would have to say that Diego Velasquez predominately painted people. When I researched some of his most popular work, I did not see any paintings that were of a landscape, objects, or an animal- they all included people. The people being painted were never smiling. I play the piano, and when I first started I learned a lot about Mozart. He’s an incredible composer of operas and music, and it just absolutely amazes me that he writes his own work. ESSAY #3 From the movie The Count of Monte Christo the priest taught Edmund Dantes many valuable lessons. When captured in the jail cell, alone, the priest appeared out of the floor. They became great friends, and together, began digging a hole, attempting to make it to the outside. During this journey, Edmund learned patience, revenge, and how to read! Patience came around when they were trying to dig the underground hole to the outside. It took many months to finally reach something, and when they got a break, the ground above them began to collapse. The priest was trapped and Edmund had to get him out. Eventually, the Priest died, and left Edmund with a map. This map brought him to the hidden treasure on a remote island. Revenge was prevalent after he made it back on land. His fiance he left because he was sent to jail, ended up marrying his best friend. He seeks revenge, and does just that. In the end, he kills his best friend, finds out he has a son, and gets the love of his life
