Haute couture clothes are expensive and luxurious in such dresses you will feel like a queen or a special person. However, there is one more category pret-a-porter more known to us as ready-to-wear. We can’t explain fashion without haute couture and pret-a-porter that both are very important main categories of the fashion industry. The fact that many press and celebrities attend haute couture and prêt-a-porter fashion show to look their collections twice a year indicates that collections are a big issue of fashion each season during a period known as fashion week. Designers of haute couture and prêt-a-porter affect people who are interested in fashion and suggest to people fashion trend. On the other hand, clothes of haute couture and prêt-a-porter designers have distinguishable features as histories, clients, styles. The history represents an important difference between haute couture and prêt-a-porter. Haute couture was developed by Charles Frederick Worth, who was considered the father of haute couture as well-known today, was born in Paris in 1858. As railroads and steamships made European travel easier, it was common for wealthy women to travel to Paris to buy clothes. French designers and dressmakers could be the best in Europe. Haute couture enjoyed a golden age during 20s. However, before the American Civil War, prêt-a-porter existed, but it was limited. In conclusion, prêt-a-porter appeared by demand of time. In addition, they couldn’t operate their ateliers only for haute couture because a development of manufacturing technology created wider marketplaces. Prêt-a-porter attracted a lot of attention more than Haute Couture, and it became popular in 50s. The other distinguishable difference is their purpose of making clothes.
