Lady Macbeth challenges him, saying that he is not a man. Macbeth becomes defensive, and to defend himself, he kills Duncan. So, in the end both are to blame. Macbeth had committed the actual murder, and Lady Macbeth made the plan and convinced her husband to commit the
In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, Macbeth feels guilty after slaughtering King Duncan whereas Lady Macbeth is unfazed. To begin with, Macbeth feels that he is not honorable enough to have the title of Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth hears a voice cry “‘Glamis hath murder’d sleep’, and therefore Cawdor/Shall sleep no more” (2.2.46, 46). Here, Macbeth does not think that he deserves the title because he dishonoured the king who gave him the opportunity to succeed. It is quite ironic how the original Thane of Cawdor was a traitor and now Macbeth follows down the same path.
The characters determination for power causes them to carry out immoral acts. These actions play on the minds of the main characters as their guilty consciences torture them into madness. The text first shows that Macbeth is feeling guilty about desiring to kill Duncan in Act 1 scene 4, when Macbeth says, “Stars hide your fires! Let not light see my black and deep desires.” This shows that he wants no one and nothing to see what he is plotting, affirming that Macbeth understands, unlike his wife, the wrong in contemplating murdering Duncan.
Macbeth Beware of Macduff! Beware the thane of Fife. Dismiss me. Enough.” Act 1, Sc 4, 77) He then sent more murderers to kill Macduff; however Macduff was not there, so the murderers killed his entire family. The witches and Lady Macbeth made Macbeth lose his sanity.
This is another main argument that supports this statement to be true, that Macbeth’s decline and his death was his own fault due to Macduff seeking revenge upon Macbeth. In conclusion, the play “Macbeth”, written by William Shakespeare, as readers we distinguished that Macbeth’s decline and death was his own fault. The arguments that supported this statement to be true are: Macbeth’s ambition, the killing of Duncan, Banquo and Macduff’s family and finally Macduff’s revenge. The only person who could be held responsible for Macbeth being killed is Macbeth
The first reason why Grendel is portrayed as evil in Beowulf is because he is categorized with Cain. It is told in the the Bible that Cain was the first murderer in the world. He killed his brother because he was jealous, and thus God condemned him and made him an outcast from the rest of the world. Being that the epic poem Beowulf was written in the Anglo-Saxon time period, everyone was very religious. One of the worst things to be associated with at that time (and still is today) is with fratricide, or the killing of a brother (Grendel).
As the play goes on Macbeth becomes greedy after the mysterious visit of the three witches telling him he will become king. Macbeth becomes the bad guy in this situation when bad thoughts of murder came to mind and started to overcome the good in him. Murder was his intention and for that he killed fellow men who once where in close relation to him and his wife. “I have done the deed.” (Macbeth 2.2) The reason for Macbeth to even believe in himself that he could get away with this is because he was so trustworthy in the beginning by being the good guy and helping out the townspeople rather than being the one to make them need help. Good may be evil hidden so well that there would be no determination if they were actually really good.
Murder is one of the seven deadly sins and a crime that most try to avoid. Murder taints the criminal with the victims’ blood forever. Macbeth is a man that understands what it is like to steal the life of another man, yet continues to butcher one victim to the next. In the play Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, Banquo’s murder plagues Macbeth’s innermost soul more profoundly in comparison to the murder of Duncan because of the relationship he has with him, his motive behind the murder and the immensity of the remorse following the murder. Banquo’s murder affected Macbeth more deeply than that of Duncan because the relationship Macbeth has with Banquo is that of a friend.
In Macbeth by William Shakespeare, a numerous amount of hateful actions are committed, especially the death of King Duncan. I believe that Lady Macbeth should be held more responsible for the murder of Duncan than Macbeth because she went out of her way to convince Macbeth to kill him, then covered it up, and felt guilty and received karma for what she did. Although he agreed to actually murdering the king, if it wasn’t for lady Macbeths intentions Macbeth would have not gone through with the plan. Lady Macbeth made Macbeth the horrible human he became; she is more capable of evil than he is. She has great influence over
