Unit 20 – Promoting Health Education. By Leanne Raby. Assignment 1 – Principles of health education. M1 – Assess how the social context may influence the ability of health education campaigns, to change behaviour in relation to health. In this assignment I’m going to assess how the social context may influence the ability of health education issues. These three issues are including Financial Constraints, Social Constraints and Peer Pressure. Financial constraints, can put pressure on people to try and fulfil a healthy lifestyle. If people can’t afford access to health food shops and buying fruit and vegetables, on a weekly basis. A Comment from the Video was “You wouldn’t start a night like this so why end it this way” (Binge Girl - Alcohol know your limits. 2013). This video was based on making sure that everyone was aware of the effects of drinking alcohol on the body. There are two examples of peer pressure that can be used against individuals. 1st example is direct peer pressure, which can be related to bullying. This could become quite serious, when people are bullied into doing something they don’t want to do. 2nd Example is Indirect peer pressure, which is usually happens over social media websites. This can become quite serious, when people are being pressurized or made to become a treat of other people’s actions. The positive effects of peer pressure, can be that peer pressure can persuade you not to continue to smoke or drink. Good friends, will say it’s bad to smoke/drink in front of kids and will tell you it’s wrong. Negative impact of peer pressure, is that it can become quite viral if it happens on a social media
