English 101 Lyrical Analysis Essay Music can greatly impact people and influence how they act and react to their environment around them. Music can help to portray a message to people which represents the views of the artist and the people who influenced them. Say Anything is a band with many great and amazing songs, many of which have metaphorical and hidden meaning within them. One of their songs, “Admit It!!!” off their ...Is a Real Boy album, is one of their most metaphorical songs, using multiple analytical terms and phrases to generalize a group that strives to become independent. Truly this song is a slap in the face for people of this group, proving just how futile their personal movement is. The song starts off with a long and very intricate description of a single group of people. The first sentence is “Despite your pseudo-bohemian appearance and vaguely leftist doctrine of beliefs, you know nothing about art or sex that you couldn’t read in any trendy, New York underground fashion magazine.” The first phrase, Despite your pseudo-bohemian appearance and vaguely leftist doctrine of beliefs, illustrates a person who sees themselves as intellectuals, when in reality, they really aren’t that smart, and simply put on a show. The vaguely leftist doctrine of beliefs from the common liberal belief among most youths of today. Here the lead singer, from now on referred to as Max (Because his name is Max Beamis), is referring to a group of people known as Hipsters; People who believe because of their certain social outlook on life and taste in music, that they are superior to others. This is, of course, false, and looked down upon by Max. The next set of lyrics “Prototypical non-conformist, you are a vacuous soldier of the thrift store gestapo. You adhere to a set of standards and tastes, which appear to be determined by an unseen panel of hipster judges
