October 2, 2012 ENC 1101 Lupe Fiasco is in my opinion one of the greatest artist of all time. He is a mainstream rapper with so much profound meaning to his songs. Because of this the untrained ear would just think he’s rapping; I see him as an icon as should everyone else old and young alike. Lupe Fiasco just released a new album called the Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album and it is awesome! His timing couldn’t have been anymore perfect now that Columbus Day is next week. You see his album is about how America came to be and all about the voyages from 1492 to 1503. When we are young we’re told about Columbus and how he was a great man and blah, blah, blah. What is untold is what he did to the natives. When Columbus encountered the natives he didn’t greet them in a very nice manner. Lupe Fiasco touches on this in his song Unforgivable Youth. I only you gave you the tip of the iceberg of who Lupe Fiasco is. Lupe once said, “We had a song out about cocaine, guns, and women, and I would go to a record store and look at it and think, 'What are you doing?' I felt like a hypocrite. I was acting like this rapper who would never be judged, and I had to destroy that guy. Because what Lupe Fiasco says on this microphone is going to come back to Wasalu Jaco. When the music cuts off, you have to go home and live with what you say." That quote right there is a testament to Lupe and how he is different he is the best rapper out there because he is real. He doesn’t try to be something he is not and he raps about things that matter, things that will change your life if you just listen.
