His lessons therefore contribute to the success of the quest. Somax a “humble carter,” the lessons he is able to teach to Priam, many of which were not with the intention to educate. For him these were mere common courtesies and practise as he is described as an “ordinary man” who has had “nothing to do with princes until now”. Malouf uses this to emphasise how disconnected Priam is to being a mortal and how his “ceremonial role” has essentially removed him, with his comparison of an “obedient toddler.” This is furthered by Priam learning of the “griddlecakes” which both sparked his imagination and the idea that food originates from ingredients. Somax’s story of the “daughter in law” helps to recreate a lost feature in Priam, his imagination and the will to speak just for a conversation.
Also, he points out that the parents were not allowed to get to close to the children, showing us that the children had no type of affection. The parents were not supposed to get close with the children because in most cases the children were going to die and they wanted the parents to be able to move right along. The author uses Aries’s Centuries of Childhood: A Social History of Family Life, a study of European attitudes toward childhood. By doing this enrichment assignment it enhanced my thought of how the Puritan children were treated. I never knew that the Puritan children did not have any childhood until I took this class.
Right from the start, children attach themselves to those they see as heroes. The ones that take care of them, accept them, and believe in them are the ones who are idolized by the youthful mind. But do these champions of the naïve brain deserve the followers they gain? Certain traits of those figures could hold negative or positive impacts on their admirers, as is the case in Nancy Farmer’s The House of the Scorpion. Matt’s relationship with Tam Lin and El Patrón shows how father figures can have a heavy influence on a child’s action, resulting in an overall change in their future behaviors.
The people in Montag’s society are banned by their government to read anything that has any philosophies or intellectual thought. The people do not want to read books in the first place because books do not give them the immediate interaction response the televisions walls does. They do not want to have to think and use their mind. This is expressed when Mildred is yelling at Montag about how useless books are and she says, “Books aren't people. You read and I look around, but there isn't anybody!” (73).
But no kinsman of his sin; Accept no foolishness and do not support the child when they break the rules or behave badly. In his final paragraph of the essay, Emerson tells the readers “Consent yourself to be an organ of your highest thought”. He is telling the readers that one needs to allow ones selves to be in service to what is known to be right. He believes that we are all capable of great things, and we must believe in ourselves and do what we know to be right. 6.
But as going deeper into education system, he becomes far and far away from his family and his Mexican heritage. For a period of time, he has abandoned his own culture and pursued the banking education blindly. He follows instruction from teacher and learns mechanically without thinking and having point of view because with banking education, he does not get to raise his own voice, to have his own opinion, and to be original. He believes that only school and teachers can help him with his knowledge achievement. Eventually, Richard realizes his lack of care for his family and his miserable way of getting education.
They live in a life of unstructured hierarchy in the sense that no one in the Gilmore family has total power to control the actions of those committing crimes, which helps us understand why the Gilmore brothers and even the father choose to be living a forbidden life. Mikal’s family truly has no process of exercising authority in the sense that even the father is joining gangs and being part of all the dirty work. This helps us understand that governance in the Gilmore family shall never exist as long as a father figure is committing crimes as well, which sets an example for the

They are also an example for us to improve our learning process in our life. While learning the stories written by Frederick Douglass and Malcolm X, the lessons I have learned from them is to take the advantage of educations that I have received from school, college, professors, and from my friends. Encourage your self-education by yourself, and do not expect from others to force you to learn.
I found it engaging how he hooked his audience in by starting his speech with a parable, a typical approach for most addresses, and then made it instantly clear that he wasn’t going to stay on that traditional path and opposed his opening introduction. By doing that, Wallace set himself up to the students as someone who isn’t trying to lecture them. Wallace is merely trying to warn the graduating students what they’re in for in regards to their futures, and how to help guide them to sanity and hope. Wallace addresses the audience, a group of students significantly younger who haven’t experienced the “ins and outs” of life yet, as peers rather than minors. Wallace achieves this by using a tone more casual than preachy.
