Should Homosexuals be Able to Marry?
The arguments in the United States for making same sex marriage legal have been causing mixed feelings throughout the nation.   Some fear that same sex marriage might alter the traditional marriage between male and female.   I support same sex marriage, because homosexuals are human beings just like everyone else and they should have the right to marry and gender that makes them happy in life.   “Those who question marriage ask: If marriage urges us to organize our lives in certain conventional ways, then what might society look like in its
absence” Emens (2011).   I will define homosexuality from two different dictionaries; review the state of Vermont ruling that legalized same sex marriage, states that oppose same sex marriage, the President’s view on same sex marriage and religion and same sex marriage.
Homosexuality is when the same sex or gender is attracted to one another. As defined by Merriam-Webster (2012) “of, relating to, or characterized by a tendency to direct sexual desire toward another of the same sex.”   Dictionary online (2013) defines homosexuality as “sexual desire or behavior directed toward a person or persons of one's own sex.”   Both dictionaries describe homosexuality as one having the desire of sexual thoughts or tendencies for the same sex.   These two definitions outline what classifies someone to be a homosexual or defines a person’s sexual desire towards the same sex.   Some states within the United States support homosexuality and legalized same sex marriage.
The state of Vermont legalized same sex marriage in 1999.   “The Vermont court did not order the legislature to allow same-sex marriage, but it left the door open for the state to establish another way to give homosexuals all the rights of married couples” stated by Teicher, (1999).   Same sex partners are recognized by the state of Vermont and they are accepted by most of the citizens within the state....
