“Los Pobres” by Richard Rodriguez tell us a story of a young Hispanic man who wants to differentiate himself from the Mexican culture by the education. He rejected the fact that he is Mexican because he was raised in a different life style. He was going at the prestigious school and spoke English what most Mexican could not. These facts made him differentiate himself from the rest of the Mexican culture and especially”Los Pobres”. The book treats of a great aspect of life, education. The author talks about the importance of speaking English what is the most important point for communicate with others, what most of others Mexican could not do. He does not considerate himself as being a Mexican. The weakness of that book is about the trade he made from his ethnicity due to the fact he spoke English and thought he was better than the Mexican culture. He forgot and rejected his roots based on a better education he got from his parents and his prestigious school, Stanford. Most of the “Los Pobres” have to work to provide for their family just like anybody else does. He should think twice about his parents when they migrate here, because they were also “Los Pobres” in others people views. In this book, I identify myself. I was born in a different country from where my parents came from. I really identify myself as a citizen from this country without forgot my parent’s roots and their culture.
