Rasha Lifsey Mrs. Anhalt ENG 311 21 November 2010 In the novel Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, a plane filled with young boys crashes down onto an island, killing all of the adults that were on board. The boys must care for themselves in order to survive. Ralph gets chosen as their leader, but his work is constantly interrupted by Jack, who wants to be the leader. Later on, Jack creates a fire and smokes Ralph out of his hiding place. A passing by ship sees the smoke and the boys are finally rescued. Now, in the movie Madagascar, Alex, Marty, Melman, and Gloria are put on a boat to be shipped to Africa. When Marty and Alex start to argue, they all fall off of the boat and wash up onto an island. They search the island and come across a lot of lemurs. The lemurs feed them only once, which is not satisfying to Alex at all! Alex starts to get hungry, and that’s when his lion instincts begin to come into play. He sees his friends as food, so they run away. Finally, the penguins come to the rescue, feeds Alex some sushi, and they are now all safe. So, in Lord of the Flies and Madagascar, the setting, characters, and conflicts are similar, but they have very apparent differences.…show more content…
Both take place on a tropical island. In Lord of the Flies, however, the boys must learn to survive for a longer period of time, so they get much more of an experience than the characters in Madagascar. Another setting is about the shelters. In Madagascar, Marty’s tiki bar, which is what he calls the “fun side”, is similar to Jack’s side in Lord of the Flies. Everyone wants to feel a part of the group, so they all go to the “fun side”. Ralph’s side and Alex’s fort are similar to each other as well. Their shelters are not well built at all and nobody ever really cares to be over
