Lord of the Flies Chapter Summaries Chapter 1: A boy name Ralph and Piggy find themselves on an unknown island. Their plane crashed and the pilot and other kids are missing. Piggy finds a shell and tells Ralph to use as a horn to signal other survivors. Kids came along with a choir group with their leader, Jack. They decide to vote a chief to lead the group. Ralph wins but he gives Jack the power to lead his choir group. Ralph, Jack, and Simon explores their environment and see if they can get help. On their way back, Jack encounters a pig with stuck. He attempts to kill it with his knife, but he resisted and the pig got away. Jack vows to kill without a doubt next time. Chapter 2: Ralph and the group return and hold another meeting. They announce that there are no grown-ups to be seen and they need hunters to find meat. As the meeting continue, Piggy raises concerns about not going to be rescued. Ralph replies that his dad will surely find the group. A six year old boy said he spots a “beastie” or a snake looking creature during their meeting. Ralph and Jack quickly told the group to reassure that there is no snake-like creature and it's the boy imagination. At the end of the meeting, Ralph propose an idea to create fire on the top of the mountain to signal at nearby planes or ships. Without Ralph permission, the group disperse and went to find for wood. While the boys set up the fire, Piggy complains about how the group is unorganized and chaotic. They manage to start a fire, but only for a short time. Piggy continue to complain about the inefficient group effort in surviving. Suddenly a nearby tree catches on fire and Piggy realize that the six year old boy who talked about the “beastie” is gone. With things going bad, the remaining boys in the group pretend nothing happened. Chapter 3: Jack attempts to hunt a pig for the second time but the pig escaped.
