Ralph is used as a leader. Boys decide to make a signal fire on the top of the mountain, it gets out of control and a big part of the forest is set on fire. Some of the boys are sure there is a beast on the island (younger mostly). Time passes and the boys lose a ship (they neglected a signal fire hunting down a pig, Jack was the one to blame). The next day the assembly was called, Jack wants to take control of the group but Ralph wins.
While Ralph is out hunting with some of the older boys including Jack he says “We can’t leave the littlunss alone with Piggy all night” (page 104). This shows that he cares about the littluns safety and not just about getting food for himself. Ralph is more focused on getting rescued then creating a life on the island and hunting. One of the most important things to him is fire, so a ship or airplane would see the smoke and come rescue them. Jack and his boys are in charge of the fire and the one time a ship goes by they didn’t take care of the fire and the ship doesn’t see them, when they could have been rescued.
He can catch his own pigs. Anyone who wants to hunt when I do can come too.” Being angered because Jack’s tribe stole Piggy’s spectacles and because no one was listening, Piggy goes off to Jack’s side of the island with Ralph and the twins to show who’s boss around here and to retrieve his glasses. Once arriving there, Jack and Ralph have a mini battle. As this goes on, Roger tries to interfere, and ends up killing Piggy with an extremely large boulder. Piggy’s death signifies that all intelligence on the island has ended.
To show him he can’t keep being a bully. When Frank finds out that Kenny shooting that dog was only taking orders, he let Tub know that he basically shot his own friend for no reason. So the consequence of Kenny’s bullying? Tub shoots him in his stomach. Due to their where bout’s it takes them on a long road trip to find a hospital because they couldn’t get an ambulance out that far in the country and all was occupied.
They set out supplies, and Skeetah decides that they need more food, so he shoots a squirrel with his BB gun. Randall refuses to clean the squirrel, so Skeetah does, but he accidentally nips the intestines. The smell forces Esch into the bushes to vomit. While the meat is cooking, Marquise, Big Henry, and Manny arrive. Esch comments that Skeetah never named the puppy, so he tells her to give it a name.
This quote shows that the school boys are actually forgetting who they really are and worshiping the devil by sacrificing a pig. With this in mind Roger kills Piggy by pushing down a rock with, "delirious abandonment," (Golding, 180). After his death no one in Jack’s tribe had any remorse for Piggy nor Ralph, showing that they are willing to kill and enjoy it. Golding’s message by this, shows that when in total abandonment of Government and society, humans are willing to kill anything. In brief, the novel, Lord Of The Flies by William Golding, shows that without adults on the island, the boys became vicious, disorderly, and evil.
Smoke!’ … ‘Ralph – where’s the ship”’ (Golding 66). This is when Ralph freaks out because he sees a ship, yet the fire has gone out on the top of the mountain. Ralph yells because he knows they have lost hope of getting rescued by the ship. All the boys have no idea what Ralph is talking about, so they just look around in confusion. On the other hand, Simon already knows what has happened.
Lord of the Flies by William Golding is about surviving on a deserted island after a boarding school charter plane got shot down in the midst of WWII. The only survivors are the young boys who are then stranded on the island to fend for themselves. The boys, like Jack, Ralph, Piggy, and Simon, make their own government in the beginning but then struggle to keep the order. Eventually the group brakes apart and order is symbolically gone within the boys as they turn savage because of the beast within them. The boys seem to lose all control of the tribe and of themselves.
The boys believe that they will be rescued after their airplane crash-landed on a deserted island with no adults. They believe it is a short trip in paradise. Ironically, the boys learn the dark side of human nature: killing, stealing, and fighting. The book Lord of the Flies doesn’t offer any hope because most of the boys turned into violent savages who kill and steal. They had no solution to end it.
After a while, Jack feels that Ralph is not a good leader and he should take over the leadership of the people on the island. Jack then made a huge mistake by not having people by going off to hunt for the group instead of helping the group watch and keep the fire one. “I’m going off by myself. He can catch his own pigs. Anyone who want so hunt when I do can come too” (Golding, 178).
